“Tough times never last, tough people do.” ~ Lui Leasiolagi

you wore that dress everyday.. “  argggg, House of Heroes, you are killing me!! That song, ‘If’  by House of Heroes, has been stuck in my head since the moment I heard it. WEEKS AGO. No matter what I do, I cannot get it out. I sing it in the shower, while cleaning, in the car, everywhere I go. I listen to it everyday. My six year old knows the words to it!
So, in an effort to spare everyone else (and to curb that dreadful day that I will most certainly be sick of it and it will not leave my head, thank you irony), I’ve been broadening my music horizons and discovered some very talented people on the way. I don’t know if they’re new, or common, but my head has been buried in punk rock for so long I’m just happy to be out. Check em out:
Belleruche- Northern Girls, Alice and The Duck are a few of my favorites
Priscilla Ahn- Find My Way Back Home is adorable. The girl has ukulele skills! Take a listen to Dream too
Aimee Allen- I’m not really a fan of her songs, but I love the carefree feeling in On Vacation
Anna Nalick- I love her version of Breaking The Girl, and Forever Love(Digame) is beautiful
Kinny- Backstreet Lust my new cleaning song, I even admit to singing along… with a broom..
The Wood Brothers- One More Day may be the new If

Zero Amusement

September 15, 2009

We are starting our 3rd week in homeschooling!! I honestly don’t know what to think yet. I homeschooled B last year, but that was kindergarten, it was easy. This year we have so much more to learn, and I’m a bit afraid that we won’t hit the standards. B didn’t take to well to schooling last year, but at least this year she’s shown signs of..er.. curiosity?? Or maybe just amusing me.

For example, last year we learned how to count and recognize numbers up to 100 (in K!??!) so the past few weeks, we have been reviewing.  I ask B, whats 1+0 (emphasizing on the value of  0) and she says 2..1..0..  obviously, she didn’t know, so I gave her examples, MANY examples, using crayons, markers, stuffed animals, etc. Sometimes she got the answer right, sometimes wrong. So I told her,” Look, zero is nothing. Nothing at all, it’s completely blank.” And I ask her again. She says “Well, zero is nothing so the answer must be zero.” “No hun, thats what it is when we multiply, and we’re not doing that yet lol”. Soooo,  a few more examples later, she starts to understand. So I ask her one last time (frustration hittin the roof here) “What is 1+0?” And she says proudly… “Well, I know it’s not zero!”

I do believe she’s amusing me.

Been Forever

September 4, 2009

Boy, has it! I have to say, this summer has thrown a few unexpected curveballs my way. Im not gonna delve into the superpersonal here, but between The Rolling of the Ankle, my birthday and prepping to homeschool my daughter, other things happened. A form of evolution, you could call it. No worries. We are all constantly evolving, and thats the beauty of being human. The end result is always worth it.

Discovered a beautiful song by Erin McCarley. I could relate to this many times this summer. Has anyone heard of her? Check out ‘Pony’, its adorable!

Pitter-Pat

Tucked the moon into the ground
Turned this bedroom upside down tonight
Took my faith and i breathed it out
Then walked right through a cloud of flashing lights, bright lights.

Pain takes my heart’s place
The love we made, we cant erase it, don’t wanna face it

Pitter pat, the angel on my shoulder
Is haunting me tonight
Tick tock, the clock is getting louder
Ready for me to decide

I’ve lost my sense of right and wrong
Well-justified my soul to carry on
It feels so damn good to write off the rules
But when a new day breaks, I’m left a fool I’m such a fool

Pain takes my heart’s place
But your sweet sweet love,
oh I can taste it but still can’t face it

Pitter pat, the angel on my shoulder
Is haunting me tonight
Tick tock the clock is getting louder
Waiting for me to decide

The sun is coming down on me
Could fate be so unkind?

Pain takes my heart’s place
The love we made remains

Monkeys are Evil!

August 10, 2009

Sure, they’re cute and cuddly, but only in cartoons! Think about it: Monkeys are being trained to speak (sign language) and do simple, everyday tasks. So we can say that they function on the same level as severely mentally handicapped people. BUT – they have no soul, therefore they have no moral reasoning. Their sense of right and wrong only comes from those who train them. And any human whose life revolves around the training and testing of monkeys, well, I’d say they have problems. Put those monkeys in the hands of an evil warlord wannabe and we’re all screwed. Thanks PETA.
